NEWS

After all is said and done, here’s a few statistics for a throwback Friday (we like to mix it up): 😊

- 22.043 strokes have been played (including 12.463 aces!)
- 543 lunches have been served
- 230 croissants have been eaten and are now settled on your waistlines
- 656 sandwiches have been there for the quick recesses in-between rounds
- 390 beers have been shared with friends
- 1350+ nights spent in Porto, when you add up all the people who stayed here for 8 days

All in all, it adds up to 900 vacation days well spent. Wouldn’t you say?

Fabien Spies, from MGC Askö Bischofshofen

1. When did you start playing minigolf and what (or who) led you to this amazing sport?
I started playing minigolf officially 2004, when I was 7 years old, because my father has been the president of our club so it was near which sport I will begin to do.
--

2. Can you describe your best moment in a minigolf setting?
The last round – final round – at the European Championships 2016 in Vizela. Especially the last stroke, after which I knew that I´ve won the BRONZE MEDAL for sure, which switched a few minutes later to the really surprising GOLD MEDAL for me as a youth player.
--

3. What about the worst?
Maybe the moment this year at the European Championship 2018 in Predazzo, when it was clear that I missed the qualification for Matchplay with only 1 stroke more than the last who qualified.
--

4. Have you ever thought about stopping?
No, I´ve never thought about that. Playing and competing with other athletes for is FUN and always motivates me to go further.
--

5. Have you ever been to Porto? If so, what memories do you have of our course and city? If not, what are your expectations?
I´ve been to Porto during the European Championships 2016 in Vizela in our free time, but have not yet played on this course. I am really looking forward to arriving and practicing for the tournament.
--

6. What do you think is the most important trait or skill in order to excel in minigolf?
The most important traits or skills are concentration as well as passion for this sport, to be able to always practice hard to get better.
--

7. What advice would you give to the young minigolf players who would like to be up on an international podium someday?
It´s really important to ask yourself what could be done better and always watching the world´s best players to find out what they are doing better than oneself.
--

8. Finally, could you tell us about your goals for this championship and for the next season?
Our goal is to be fighting for the medals until the end and maybe stand at the podium if we all give our best. For next season I really want to win AUSTRIAN TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP one more time to be allowed to participate at EC 2019 in Voitsberg (Austria)

Thanks, Fabian!
